About Justin Li

justin-li-newJUSTIN LI, served on Ryde Council representing West Ward from 2008 to 2017.

He grew up in Eastwood and attended Eastwood Heights Public School. He later attended Normanhurst Boys High School, where he finished as dux of the grade.

In September 2008 at the age of 26, Justin was elected as an independent councillor to Ryde Council, representing the people of West Ward.  Justin was re-elected to Ryde Council in the 2012 election with an increased vote, and was also elected Deputy Mayor, the youngest and first person of Asian descent to hold that post in Ryde’s history.

Among his achievements since 2008 include making Ryde Council more accessible to non English speaking residents, giving voice to residents who received unfair parking fines, removing the unpopular Marsfield parking meters, establishing the annual Eastwood Luna New Year festival, bringing outdoor cinemas and free Wi-Fi to Eastwood Plaza, and in 2015 making the Plaza smoke-free.

Justin takes a keen interest on transport, traffic, parking, community facilities, infrastructure, crime prevention, youth, the arts and multiculturalism issues in Ryde and is committed to serving the community with Christian values.

Justin retired from Ryde Council in September 2017 after serving 9 years.

Justin is currently President of the Australian Asian Association of Bennelong and a board member of  Christian Community Aid based in Eastwood.
